Santora Votes to Increase Education Funding by $150 Million
6/30/2017

HARRISBURG –
Today, Rep. James R. Santora (R-Delaware) joined the majority of his colleagues in voting for a $32 billion budget that would provide increases in basic education, special education and Pre-K Counts, while also restoring the governor’s proposed cuts to student transportation.

“Restoration of the full $550 million for the transportation of our students was critical, because we all know that the difference would have been made up via local taxes imposed by municipalities. We can’t just provide bussing four days a week instead of five because less money was allocated in the budget,” Santora said. “This represents a huge win for taxpayers of the Commonwealth.”

The budget would award an additional $100 million to basic education funding and $25 million each to special education and Pre-K Counts.

It now advances to Gov. Tom Wolf for consideration.

The Legislature will reconvene next week to produce the budget’s revenue package.
