Santora’s Top Priorities Reflected in Budget Address
HARRISBURG – Following the budget address that Gov. Tom Wolf delivered today to a joint session of the General Assembly, Rep. James R. Santora (R-Delaware) released this statement:

“In the governor’s final budget address of his term, he called for an increase in education funding for basic education, special education Pre-K Counts and Head Start. Allotting additional money for education without burdening Commonwealth taxpayers is certainly positive, and Pennsylvania students could further benefit from a shale tax.

“The governor’s shale tax proposal is different than one I have already offered, and I expect that his would need to be modified to gain enough support to pass in the House and Senate. However, severance tax revenues could be used to better our students’ educational opportunities in the Commonwealth.

“Sadly, the opioid crisis continues to crush families in Pennsylvania. Horrific drugs are stealing the lives of people young and old – demanding our attention. The governor’s budget calls for an increase in funding to fight the opioid epidemic, and I am confident that the final budget will also include an increase. We simply must stop the destruction our communities are facing.

“With the governor’s proposed 3 percent budget increase, the process begins at a much more realistic point than it has in years past. It is my hope and priority that we will work together to produce a fair and timely budget that receives support from the House, Senate and Gov. Tom Wolf.”
